I am very excited to have started the Dance Under The Umbrella program at Emerson Umbrella Center for the Arts in Concord, Massachusetts. It was an exciting first week getting enrolled classes up and running. There are plenty of spots left in most classes, and some need more students in order to run.
Highlights from the first week:
Dance Foundations I started with 2 very excited girls. They were energetic, yet focused, as they learned basic ballet concepts such as plies, point and close, swaying, and ballet walks. We explored dance concepts such as the difference between dancing in place and dancing in general space. They each showed off elements of what they'd learned in their "good-bye dance" across the floor and were excited to receive a Dance (Silly) Band as they curtsied at the end of class.
Mini Billy Dancing filled the Emerson Umbrella stage with the enthusiastic sounds of 4 boys. The class is inspired by the musical Billy Elliot. Our theme for the class was Stand Together, Stand As One and we did some mirroring and follow the leader exercises. The boys also learned some basic ballet and tap. Next week's class will have the theme of Getting to Know You and the boys will bring in objects which inspire them.
